Bombast, orchestration, intricacy - such are the modi operandi of The Cascade.

Since convening in Washington, DC in early 2010, we have evolved into a 15(ish)-piece musical collective wielding a palette of horns, keyboard, percussion, and strings of all types. We gather weekly in DC’s Logan Circle neighborhood, bringing to life the composed music of frontman James Wolff, a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory and vocalist du jour.

We are artists and activists, bureaucrats and writers, musicians and engineers. We seek to make music based on nuance and harmony while harnessing the raw power inherent in an ensemble of our size and diversity. A confluence of classical and pop influence, we’re as versed in Philip Glass and the twelve-tone techniques as we are Jeff Mangum and the Dischord back catalog.

The Cascade exists to maximize the possibilities of the dynamic and leave no aural stone unturned. Ours is a music of possibility, of meticulous planning unleashed. Thank you for listening.
